Introduction to TED Talks

1. My Experience/Expectations with TED: Thusfar I have had no experience with TED Talks. My expectations for the talks are that they will be very insightful in many different areas of study. I am looking forward to using TED Talks in the future for research projects.

 2. About TED: TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks 18 minutes or less. TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics. TED is owned by the Sapling Foundation, a private nonprofit foundation established by publishing entrepreneur Chris Anderson. TED makes money through conference attendance fees, sponsorships, foundation support, licensing fees and book sales. When you join TED, you can leave comments, save talks to watch later, and track TED-Ed lessons.

3. TED Talks: A Ted Talk is a video that lasts about 18 minutes (or less) that covers an area of study. They are very insightful and full of research by professionals in that area of study. Some TED topics include technology, entertainment, design, business and global issues. A few trusted TED  speakers include Chris Abani, Allan Adams, Pete Alcorn, Madelene Albright, and omar Ahmad.

4. The TED Prize: The TED Prize is awarded annually to a leader with a fresh, bold vision for sparking global change. The TED Prize winner receives $1,000,000. Nomination for the TED Prize may happen two ways - nominate yourself and make a wish, or nominate someone else, and they will contact them to ask them for their wish. The TED Prize committee reviews all nominations and narrows the applicant pool down. The most promising wishes are then presented to a jury drawn from leading members of the TED community, who select the year's winning wish. The TED Prize winner speaks at the annual TED Conference, revealing their wish and their plan for accomplishing it.

5. The TED Conference and TED Events: Conferences are held on the West Coast of North America with 1,000+ people attending these 5 day conferences. The theme for the March 2015 conference is Truth and Dare and will be held inVancouver, Canada.  TEDYouth is a day-long event for middle and high school students. Scientists, designers, technologists, explorers, artists, and performers share short talks on what they do best. TEDActive is an event held parallel with the annual TED Conference. The event features a live simulcast of the conference on HD screens with an emphasis on connection, conversation and creation.

6. TED Jobs: A few jobs available at TED include - Graphic Designer, Account Services Coordinator, and Freelance Video Editor. There is also an intern ship with TED available in the TED Ed program. They are searching for an intern to work closely with the Director of Programs and Programs Coordinator on development and implementation of TED-Ed Programs, specifically a newly designed TED-Ed Club program. I believe that if an internship came available at TED that I was interested in I would apply. The company has great morals and mission and it would be an outstanding experience.
